Scanning requires a lot of patience and attention. Placing and pressing each page down flat and get all the edges straight. Sometimes I still have to scan 5-6 times to get each page right. Smaller books are even harder as it is more rigid and won't hold still. I think that is what makes the pictures come out nice.
As for the quality, truth is, I'm never satisfied with my work. I have to console myself my scans are meant only for some small artworks and monitor screens among loving fans of the artists and not meant for printing awesome shiny pictures to make a photobook for re-distribution or anything. And I've been trying to keep the scans of a magazine or a photobook added up to around 30-50 m. A file not too troublesome and that won't take too long to download.
But the scanner I'm using is 7+ years old. It's an HP scanjet 4400C. I actually want a new better scanner. But this one still works without problem so I cannot just dump it. (^.^)v
I see some people's scans out there and sometimes I so envy them. (o^.^o)
